The last few days were officially my favorite of 2008.
First of all, to my great relief, my train didn't blow up (see my last
post).
I arrived in Seattle in one piece and set off on foot from King Steet
Station toward the Triple Door where I was to meet my friend Will. I
progressed a mere 300 yards before crossing paths with my good friends
Mindy, Kitsy and Yanko. After catching up with them for about 20
minutes I visited Will.
Will did me a huge favor for this trip abd he loaned me his apartment
for 2 days. He gave me the keys to his apartment and a brief rundown
on all important aspects of the place. I took detailed notes.
From there I caught a ride to Ballard with my friend Krista to see
Levi Fuller and Pufferfish at Conor Byrne. Brittain met us at the show
and we made rehearsal plans for Friday.
Friday, the day of our Seattle show, was the first time we've played
together. I always get a little extra nervous when I play with someone
for the first time, so basically I got zero sleep the night before (or
the night before that and even less sleep on the 2 days that
followed). Rehearsals went well and we ditched plans to visit my
friend Tara for haircuts.
Instead we picked up some bagels and headed to Montlake for a CHID
potluck. At the potluck we were asked to play some songs. I was down
for it because I could certainly use the practice. It ended up being a
pretty lucrative move; Brittain sold nearly half of her CDs after her
2-song New York inspired set (A Day at Coney Island and Brooklyn
Lullaby).
I'll probably write more later, but I am in Seattle right now and I
need to hit the road back to Portland for a meeting with the Milepost
5 crew.
