Nocturnally Yours

I was driving my car the other day and pulled up next to a motorcycle at an intersection. Bikes are cool right? Well this was cooler. This guy was dressed in black head to toe on a black crotch rocket. Here's the kicker: he had a samurai sword holster built into his custom ride ... and it had a samurai sword in it! I was afraid to take a photo at the intersection, but I got this action shot of the swordsman. He also had these crazy gloves with hook claws built in. I think he is a vampire hunter.

More pictures and sounds from the Funky Church

I accidentally posted my friend Dan's entire private photo album. It's out there on the net, but it is in a secret location. He was kind enough to give me the URL, but didn't mean for me to open my big mouth and tell the entire world. Anyway, I've removed the link from the last post and, in its place, posted a few more of the photos from the show. Brittain and I are pretty blurry ... probably because we are such animated performers so I just posted the picture of my back which was taken at one of the rare moments we weren't doing high kicks and stage slides. Dan's recording of Brittain's set is really good for real.

Shows

The shows were so much fun. Big thanks to the venues, bands and audiences who made it more or less the best weekend of 2008 for me. Thanks to Dan Coleman for taking photos and recording the show at the Funky Church. Check out those links to see pics of Matt & Brittain from the Funky Church and to hear Matt's set in it's entirety.

Pet Sounds

Um, it has come to my attention that not everyone knows what a theremin is. Well, I've posted a couple of helpful videos to entice to you buy a theremin (mine is only $350 obo fyi omg). There is a fine line between cats and dogs ... bonus points if you hit play on all of this clips at the same time.

A few days back in Seattle

The last few days were officially my favorite of 2008.

First of all, to my great relief, my train didn't blow up (see my last
post).

I arrived in Seattle in one piece and set off on foot from King Steet
Station toward the Triple Door where I was to meet my friend Will. I
progressed a mere 300 yards before crossing paths with my good friends
Mindy, Kitsy and Yanko. After catching up with them for about 20
minutes I visited Will.

Will did me a huge favor for this trip abd he loaned me his apartment
for 2 days. He gave me the keys to his apartment and a brief rundown
on all important aspects of the place. I took detailed notes.

From there I caught a ride to Ballard with my friend Krista to see
Levi Fuller and Pufferfish at Conor Byrne. Brittain met us at the show
and we made rehearsal plans for Friday.

Friday, the day of our Seattle show, was the first time we've played
together. I always get a little extra nervous when I play with someone
for the first time, so basically I got zero sleep the night before (or
the night before that and even less sleep on the 2 days that
followed). Rehearsals went well and we ditched plans to visit my
friend Tara for haircuts.

Instead we picked up some bagels and headed to Montlake for a CHID
potluck. At the potluck we were asked to play some songs. I was down
for it because I could certainly use the practice. It ended up being a
pretty lucrative move; Brittain sold nearly half of her CDs after her
2-song New York inspired set (A Day at Coney Island and Brooklyn
Lullaby).

I'll probably write more later, but I am in Seattle right now and I
need to hit the road back to Portland for a meeting with the Milepost
5 crew.

Train in vain

I missed my train, but the nice folks at Amtrak put me on another
train. I'll probably roll into Seattle around 8. Too late for artwalk
but plenty early to catch my friend Levi Fuller and Pufferfish at
Conor Byrne.

The Amtrakers just got spooked. There was an unattended red suitcase
beeping in another car! Hopefully we'll make it to Portland in one
piece.
